About

A little about me

Born in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, Now living in Plymouth, Devon My Dad learnt his photographic skills from his dad. My dad was a very skilled photographer winning many awards. These were the days when it was an expensive hobby. I remember him changing the bathroom into a red light developing studio. Obviously, as we were close, he showed me all the tips of the trade ( Never developed my own though )
My Dad and me on the right with our dog Kim. Check out my dads slippers. All the rage
These were the days when, according to my son, the world was black and white. When I was just 12, I won my first photography award. This was a black & white photo of Tower Bridge, taken on a school trip. Photography took a back burner, as at the ripe old age of 17, I joined the Royal Navy. I did this as a submariner, working my way up the ranks and becoming an electronics engineer. After 33 years serving I left and started my own business, Groundbase Photography at groundbase.co.uk , specialising in aerial photography. This was using a mast based system and for extra height, a specially commissioned ¼ hot air balloon. Using the mast I did a lot of work for real estate companies and it was on one job that the person who commissioned me was so impressed that she asked if I would do her daughters wedding. NO, No, no. OK after a lot of pressure I agreed. One wedding led to another until this became my real work, weddings and sports. I sold Groundbase with all equipment ,domain name and media at the right time with regards to properties. This was about 1 year before google street view and then drones. So taking the bull by the horns so to speak I became a fully qualified and insured drone pilot. Deciding to put this little website together.
